HISTORY:
The Northville Beach Civic Association (NBCA) was organized in 1955 to “promote the residential and recreational facilities of the Northville Beaches” as well as “exercise, promote, and protect the privileges and interests of Northville in the Town of Riverhead, NY; to foster a healthy interest in the civic affairs of the community; and to develop good citizenship.”
The first officers were Channing N. Baker, Jr. (President), John R. Wilson (Vice President), Ewart A. Beveridge (Treasurer), and C. Dewitt Seymour (Secretary).
The initial membership totaled 77 residents and the first order of business was to strongly oppose the construction of the oil terminal. As we all know, that effort was not successful thanks to the lack of a zoning ordinance in Riverhead. However, over the years, the NBCA worked to prevent a nuclear power plant, stopped a proposed oil refinery, helped to get speed limits posted on Sound Shore Road, petitioned the town to improve the condition of the Pier Avenue boat ramp, helped urge the successful preservation of the North Fork Preserve, and started the Neighborhood Watch Program. For over two decades, the NBCA has organized both beach and street cleanups.
In addition, since 2006, the NBCA has been awarding scholarships to local, college bound students. This tradition will continue this year when two students are awarded scholarships at the Annual Scholarship Cocktail Party on August 23rd (see events page for details).
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP ("Good Neighbor" Reminders):

Please be responsible neighbors by posting and/or informing the people that use your property
of the following “GOOD NEIGHBOR” reminders.
FIRE SAFETY
*Check fire extinguishers and smoke detectors twice a year [if possible]
*Keep fire hydrants near your property clear of overgrowth
*Make sure your house numbers are visible at the road or from the road
* BEACH FIRES: Size regulation from Riverhead Fire Department 3’x’3’x3’…
A] BUILD FIRES CLOSE TO THE SHORELINE

call the police (631-727-4500) with house number/violators name.
GARBAGE/TRASH
Secure your containers: Critters are plentiful and inventive. We ask that you clean around your
containers/property if debris is left behind. If a critter does invade your garbage and makes a mess, the trash collectors
will not clean it up for you.
If you live on the beach, please try to keep your property free of trash. We all know by now that Northville Beach is where most
mylar balloons go to die. Let's try to rid our beach of these pesky balloons along with all of the other trash that makes its way
onto our shore.
DOG OWNERS
* Leash your dog [s] for walks, especially along the beach. Believe it or not, not everyone enjoys dogs.
Please carry bags for your pets [non-source pollutant-health hazard] deposits. NBCA has provided a plastic bag container
for you use, located in the 630 to 550 area on Sound Shore Road.
* Barking dogs: Contact the dog’s owner, if that does not work call the Town Clerks office for
Animal control 631-727-3200 X306 or Riverhead Police 631-727-4500.
* Keep your dogs out of neighboring properties.

(2) All development, unless specifically allowed by § 12-14B of this chapter.
(3) Disturbance of active bird nesting and breeding areas, unless such disturbance is pursuant to a specific wildlife management activity approved by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC).
(4) Soil disturbance that directs surface water runoff over a bluff face.
(5) Dumping, filling or other disturbance of soil or any activity which alters or disturbs the existing natural protective feature and/or natural protective feature areas, which includes trimming and clearing of vegetation without a coastal erosion management permit.
Please do not walk up or down the bluffs.
If your bluff is eroding and you see a growing number of sandy patches it is probably time to replant your bluff. Please consult with a professional to determine the proper types of grasses, plants, and trees that are permissible on the bluff.
